The region's diverse soil types—ranging from clay and limestone to calcareous marl—create a well-drained, mineral-rich terroir that enhances the character of its wines. This unique landscape, combined with a climate characterized by hot summers and cool evenings, provides ideal conditions for cultivating the legendary Sagrantino grape, as well as other native varieties like Trebbiano Spoletino. The reveal of Giacomo Cenerini's breathtaking winning design for the 2021 Montefalco Sagrantino Etichetta d'Autore was a reminder that this region embraces creativity and innovation.
A Showdown of the Senses: At the forward-thinking Masterclass "Montefalco Today," led by the brilliant Cristina Mercuri, DipWSET revealed how this historic region is fearlessly shaping the future of fine wine. An immersive tasting of nine wines, Montefalco went head-to-head with renowned expressions from around the world. The result? A resounding affirmation of Umbria's quality and ability to stand tall on the global stage.
